About NSW Chin Woo: Honouring Tradition, Inspiring Unity

A Legacy Born in Shanghai

The Shanghai Chin Woo Athletics Association, founded in 1910 by Huo Yuanjia, one of China’s most respected martial artists, and his friend Nong Jinsun, the first President, was created to preserve and share the rich heritage of traditional Chinese martial arts.

Since then, Chin Woo has expanded across the globe, with over 50 international branches, all dedicated to spreading the values of discipline, respect, and cultural pride.

Chin Woo in New South Wales

Established in Sydney in 1976 by the late Li Yiu-Ling Sifu, the NSW Chin Woo Athletics Association has played a leading role in uniting martial arts organisations across Australia.

In March 2000, we formally became the Chin Woo Athletics Association Incorporated, expanding our vision beyond the academy into a broader, more inclusive organisation dedicated to both sport and culture.

As a non-profit, we’ve spent over 40 years building a platform that fosters cultural exchange, community harmony, and a deeper appreciation for Chinese Wushu in a diverse, multicultural society.
